Job Description
Posted on: July 10, 2025
Scrum Master – Public Sector Projects6-Month Contract | Remote (Anywhere in Australia – Sydney or Melbourne preferred)
We’re on the lookout for a confident, proactive Scrum Master who knows how to get the best out of Agile teams — and enjoys the buzz of delivering value in complex public sector environments. If you’re a natural facilitator, great with people, and passionate about agile delivery done right — let’s talk.
About the Role
You’ll be working with cross-functional delivery teams and stakeholders to help drive the adoption and ongoing success of Scrum and Agile practices. This isn’t just about running ceremonies — it’s about coaching, guiding, removing roadblocks and helping your team thrive.
You’ll play a central role in fostering transparency, collaboration and focus — ensuring incremental delivery stays on track and aligned to business outcomes.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Leading Scrum ceremonies — stand-ups, retros, sprint planning, and reviews.
- Supporting Product Owners to manage and refine backlogs effectively.
- Coaching team members and stakeholders on Agile principles and frameworks.
- Creating an environment of psychological safety and continuous improvement.
- Actively removing blockers and navigating organisational impediments.
- Driving agile maturity across delivery teams and helping embed best practice.
- Collaborating with other Scrum Masters to improve agile delivery at scale.
- Producing clear, insightful sprint reports and progress updates.
- Championing quality, consistency, and team accountability.
Who You Are
You’re someone who can read a room, hold the line when needed, and gently challenge the status quo. You’re organised without being rigid, confident without ego, and always looking for ways to make your team more effective.
What You’ll Bring
- Certified Scrum Master (CSM or equivalent).
- Experience delivering Agile projects within the public sector (PSS preferred).
- Solid understanding of Scrum, plus familiarity with Kanban, XP, Lean, etc.
- Strong communication and facilitation skills — you know how to bring people together.
- A good sense of when to coach, when to step back, and when to take the lead.
- Comfortable producing reports, facilitating retrospectives, and supporting continuous improvement.
Nice to Have
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT or similar.
- Experience with scaled agile environments or hybrid delivery models.
- Active participation in the Agile or tech community (events, meetups, user groups).
- Experience working with distributed teams.
Why You’ll Enjoy This Role
You’ll have real impact — helping public sector teams work better, deliver faster, and stay focused on what matters. It’s a chance to bring structure and calm to complex delivery environments, while collaborating with engaged, supportive people. The role is remote, flexible, and part of a team that values thoughtful delivery over ceremony for ceremony’s sake.
