Graphic Design VolunteerOpen Library on Green Economy (OLGE)Volunteer Role | Remote | ~1 hour per day
About OLGE
The Open Library on Green Economy (OLGE) is a nonprofit knowledge initiative being built as a public good. Its aim is to make sustainability, climate, and green economy knowledge more accessible, understandable, and engaging for students, practitioners, and decision-makers. OLGE works with high-quality content and ideas, and places strong emphasis on clarity, neutrality, and thoughtful presentation.
Purpose of the Role
The Graphic Design Volunteer supports OLGE by translating knowledge and ideas into clear, accessible, and visually consistent formats. This role helps ensure that reports, insights, events, and resources are presented in ways that are engaging without being overstated, and informative without being visually complex.
Nature of Engagement
This is a volunteer role for individuals who value contributing design skill to a mission-driven, knowledge-focused initiative. The work is practical and recurring. All engagement is remote, with flexibility around when the daily hour is contributed.
Time Commitment
• Approximately 1 hour per day, on most days of the week
• Flexibility is supported, but consistency is important
Responsibilities
Graphic Design Volunteers may be involved in a combination of the following activities:
- Visual Content Creation
Design simple, clean graphics for reports, presentations, social media posts, event materials, and knowledge resources.
- Knowledge Visualisation
Support the conversion of written content into visual formats such as infographics, slides, charts, and summaries that aid understanding.
- Brand Consistency
Help maintain a consistent visual language aligned with OLGE’s tone, values, and accessibility principles.
- Design Support Tasks
Assist with formatting documents, improving layouts, and refining visuals created by the OLGE team or collaborators.
- Collaboration
Work closely with content and media volunteers to ensure visuals support clarity and accuracy rather than decoration.
What OLGE Provides
• Meaningful, portfolio-worthy work connected to sustainability and education
• Exposure to high-quality climate, policy, and green economy content
• Clear briefs and a structured scope of work
• Acknowledgement of contributions on OLGE platforms and publications
• A working culture that values restraint, clarity, and purpose in design
Pathway to a Formal Role
As OLGE secures funding and builds institutional capacity, there may be opportunities to transition long-term, high-contribution volunteer roles into formal or paid positions, depending on organisational needs. While this cannot be guaranteed, sustained and thoughtful contributions are recognised and valued.
Ideal Profile
This role may suit individuals who:
• Have intermediate graphic design skills
• Are comfortable working with tools such as Canva, Figma, Adobe Suite, or similar
• Value clarity, readability, and accessibility in design
• Are reliable and comfortable working independently with light guidance
Prior experience in sustainability or nonprofit work is helpful but not required. Alignment with OLGE’s mission and a willingness to contribute regularly are most important.
Tenure
• Flexible and open-ended, with a suggested minimum commitment of three months
• The role can be concluded at any time with prior notice
Working Ethos
OLGE treats design as a knowledge tool, not an embellishment. This role is rooted in care, restraint, and respect for both content and audience.
