Head of Performance

The short version

From Little Things is a fully remote digital marketing agency - well established, and small by design. We run Meta Ads, Google Ads and email marketing for around ten long-term clients that we genuinely like working with - a mix of e-commerce and lead generation, primarily B2C across a diverse range of industries.

We're hiring a Head of Performance to own paid media strategy and execution across our client portfolio. This is a senior, hands-on role for someone who can operate independently from day one: you'll set the strategy, build and optimise the campaigns (and know when to leave them alone), brief our specialist freelancers, and translate results into plain English for clients.

Why this role exists

Until now, performance has been primarily led by our founder, alongside everything else that comes with running an agency. As we mature, we're carving performance out into its own dedicated senior role - because the work deserves a specialist whose entire focus is the craft.

To be clear about scope: this is a specialist leadership role, not a general management one. Client relationships are led by our Account Director, and the agency's direction sits with our founder, who remains hands-on as Director. Your domain is the performance work itself - strategy, builds, optimisation, measurement, and the thinking behind it all - and within that domain, you'll have genuine ownership and trust. You'll inherit well-established, well-run accounts with a proper transition, not a mess to untangle.

What you'll do

• Own paid media strategy across ~10 client accounts, translating each client's broader marketing strategy into concrete campaign structures on Meta and Google
• Build, manage and optimise some campaigns yourself, and brief/QA our trusted network of freelance specialists on others
• Know when to intervene and when to step back and let the algorithm work - restraint is a skill we hire for (your job is not to outperform Andromeda)
• Join occasional key client meetings as the performance voice: present results, explain the "why," and shape what happens next (account management and client relationships are led by our Account Director - you focus on the work and the thinking)
• Own measurement: conversion tracking, GA4, attribution, and the meaningful, actionable kind of reporting that actually matters to our clients
• Stay current on platform and algorithm changes, including the role of AI in campaign management, and bring that knowledge back to the team and our clients

What we're looking for

• Deep, hands-on expertise in Meta Ads and Google Ads - this is non-negotiable. Likely 5+ years running performance campaigns, ideally agency-side across multiple accounts
• Proven experience in both e-commerce and lead generation campaigns
• Strong measurement fundamentals: GA4, conversion tracking, attribution thinking
• The ability to operate independently - you manage your own workload & schedule, make sound judgement calls, and ask for input when it matters (not for every decision)
• Clear communication: you can explain performance results to a client without hiding behind jargon
• LinkedIn Ads and TikTok Ads experience is a bonus, but Meta and Google are where it's at
• Comfortable using AI tools to work smarter, with a skeptical curiosity about potential new opportunities and where these tools are heading

How we work

• Fully remote, anywhere in Australia (Victoria is a bonus for occasional catch-ups as the rest of us are Vic-based, but not a requirement)
• Full-time or 0.8 - and we're flexible on shape. If school hours across five days is your ideal week, that works for us
• Our structure is lean and flat by design: one full-time Account Director, a bench of excellent specialist freelancers, and a founder who gives senior people real ownership - proper scope, not micromanagement
• No timesheets, no bloated WIPs, no office politics, no reporting for the sake of it. We trust our team and care about client outcomes and the quality of our work, not hours logged

Salary

$130,000–$150,000 + superannuation (pro rata for 0.8), depending on experience.
