Retention Strategist (Klaviyo / DTC eCommerce)
Job Description
Posted on: February 21, 2026
Flow Butler is a boutique email marketing agency based on the Gold Coast. We partner with Australian DTC e-commerce brands doing $1M–$50M+ in annual revenue, building long-term relationships and delivering retention strategies that genuinely move the needle. Our clients stay because we're invested, detail-oriented and obsessed with doing excellent work.
We're a small, tight-knit team, and the person who fills this role will be the next most senior hire. That means real ownership, real influence and direct collaboration with our co-founder.
Role Description
We're looking for an experienced Retention Strategist to take strategic ownership of email marketing across multiple DTC brands. This is not an entry-level or mid-level position. We need someone who has spent years deep in Klaviyo, knows what good retention looks like for high-revenue Shopify brands, and can operate with minimal hand-holding. You'll own client relationships and be a proven rockstar when it comes to developing advanced strategies for both flows and campaigns.
You'll be responsible for:
- Retention strategy: Architecting end-to-end email retention programs across multiple brands - lifecycle flows, segmentation strategies, promotional calendars, and long-term roadmaps. You'll think well beyond welcome series and abandoned carts.
- Klaviyo (advanced): Crafting and managing sophisticated segments, complex multi-branch automation flows, and data-driven campaigns. You need to understand Klaviyo at an architectural level - not just how to send emails, but how all the pieces connect.
- Copywriting: Writing persuasive, brand-appropriate email copy for Australian and international audiences. We use AI tools in our workflow, but you need a sharp editorial eye and the ability to write strong copy from scratch when needed.
- Analytics and insights: Working across Klaviyo, GA4, and Shopify to surface opportunities, diagnose underperformance, and present clear recommendations to clients.
- Research and innovation: Keeping across what the best DTC brands globally are doing with email, and proactively bringing new ideas and test concepts to our clients.
- Team coordination: Briefing our implementer and designers via Slack and ClickUp. You'll be leading work across the team day-to-day, so clear communication and organisational skills are essential.
- Monthly planning: Mapping out strategy and campaign schedules for each client monthly, working backwards from deadlines to ensure nothing slips.
- Client communication (progression): As you settle in and demonstrate your capabilities, you'll join client strategy calls and become their go-to advisor on retention.
Who you are
- 4+ years of hands-on Klaviyo experience. You've built advanced segments, multi-step branching flows, and complex automation logic. You understand the platform deeply — its strengths, its quirks, and how to get the most out of it.
- Proven DTC e-commerce experience. You've worked with Shopify brands doing meaningful volume ($1-$50M+ annually). You understand the revenue dynamics of retention marketing and how email fits into the broader e-commerce ecosystem.
- Agency or multi-brand experience. You've managed email strategy across multiple client accounts or brands simultaneously. You know that what works for a supplements brand won't necessarily work for fashion, and you adapt accordingly.
- Strong copywriting skills. You can write compelling email copy, adapt to different brand voices, and know what converts. You can also assess and refine AI-generated copy to a high standard.
- Analytical capability. You're comfortable pulling insights from Klaviyo analytics, GA4, and Shopify. You can translate data into clear recommendations and communicate those confidently.
- Excellent written and verbal English. You'll be communicating with clients, writing strategy documents, and briefing team members daily. Clarity and professionalism are non-negotiable.
What will set you apart
- Experience with Shopify brands doing $10M+ annually
- Exposure to diverse DTC verticals (beauty, fashion, supplements, food and beverage, lifestyle, etc.)
- Familiarity with the Australian and US markets, including cultural nuances in messaging
- Figma skills for reviewing and making minor edits to email designs
- SMS marketing experience (we can train on this, but a head start is valuable)
- Experience mentoring or leading junior team members
How we work
We're a remote-first team operating in AEST. You'll have autonomy over your day, but we expect you to be available and responsive during business hours (Monday to Friday). We communicate primarily through Slack and manage work through ClickUp.
We value people who are proactive, detail-oriented, and take genuine pride in their work. We're not a high-churn agency — we build deep relationships with our clients, and we need someone who shares that mindset.
Applying
In your application, please provide a brief overview of your Klaviyo experience — specifically, the types of brands you've worked with, the scale of accounts you've managed, and examples of retention strategies you've developed (include links to any relevant work samples or case studies, if available.
We're reviewing applications on a rolling basis and will be in touch with shortlisted candidates for an initial conversation.
