Role : Founding Commercial Lead

Reporting To : Searchland CEO

Salary : $160,000 - $180,000 AUD

Working Location : Remote | Ideally based in Melbourne, Australia

Working Hours : Full time, with requirement to cross over with UK working hours twice a week

Our platform combines data, technology, and planning insight to help construction professionals uncover and act on opportunities faster and more intelligently. Following strong traction in the UK, we are ready to launch into Australia - and we’re hiring our first commercial hire on the ground to make it happen.

This is a rare opportunity to join as the Founding Commercial Lead, taking ownership of sales, market development, and early customer success.

About This Role

This isn’t a typical Account Executive role.

You’ll Be

  • The face of Buildscout in Australia
  • The driver of all early customer acquisition and GTM motion
  • Responsible for shaping our go-to-market strategy
  • Building the commercial function from scratch
  • Laying the foundations for team growth, operations, and revenue performance

🎯 What You’ll Do

As the Founding Commercial Lead, you will take full ownership of launching Buildscout in Australia - from prospecting and closing deals to representing us in the market and shaping early strategy. You’ll work closely with UK leadership, collaborating on positioning, messaging, and product feedback while operating with high autonomy day-to-day.

You Will

  • Identify, engage, and convert prospective clients through outbound outreach, networking, events, and industry channels—mirroring the consultative and proactive approach used in our UK sales model
  • Own the entire sales cycle: prospecting → qualification → demo → negotiation → close—especially across multi-stakeholder, high-value deals.
  • Deliver high-impact product demos (virtual + in-person) that showcase Buildscout’s SaaS value proposition
  • Build long-term consultative relationships and tailor our value to customer needs.
  • Relay market insights, customer feedback, and competitive intel to influence our product and commercial strategy.
  • Represent Buildscout at Australian proptech events, expos, and meetups.
  • Establish scalable sales processes and early playbooks for the region.
  • Hire, mentor, and lead a future commercial team as the operation grows.

This role is ideal for someone who wants to “build the plane while flying it”- a commercially sharp operator who thrives in start-up environments and is ready to accelerate into a senior leadership role.

🌟 What We’re Looking For

You're an entrepreneurial seller with a tech sales background, a track record of hitting targets, and the ability to build something from the ground up.

Essential

  • 4+ years experience in B2B SaaS sales with consistent overachievement
  • Demonstrated success driving complex, multi-stakeholder deals to close
  • Strong experience delivering product demos (virtual & in-person)
  • Proactive, commercially driven, highly autonomous operator
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and negotiation skills
  • Familiarity with CRMs such as HubSpot
  • Willingness to go the extra mile as the first hire in-market
  • Comfortable with twice-weekly UK hours overlap

Nice to Have

  • Experience in PropTech, construction, land, planning, or related sectors
  • Experience working in start-ups or scaling environments
  • Interest in data-driven, insight-led technology platforms
