Junior AI Full-Stack Engineer (Contract)

1QLabs is looking for a pragmatic junior full-stack engineer to help support and scale Agent One, our patent-pending AI-powered discovery platform for enterprise service design.

Agent One is already being used with two industry-leading organisations, one in construction and one in financial services, and we’re looking for someone who wants to grow quickly while working on a real AI product in active enterprise use.

This is a hands-on contract role for someone with strong fundamentals, high agency, and a genuine interest in using AI tools to build better software.

Role Details

  • Engagement: 3-month contract
  • Compensation: AUD $45-70/hr, depending on experience
  • Hours: Flexible. We’re open to part-time, full-time, or something in between for the right person.
  • Location: Remote-first, Sydney-based preferred
  • Potential: Clear path to a permanent role if it’s a strong fit on both sides

About 1QLabs

We are a team of AI and operational specialists, co-creating and investing alongside industry leaders to turn AI disruption into lasting competitive advantage.

Agent One is one of those ventures: a patent-pending platform already in active enterprise use, helping transform how complex business workflows are understood, mapped, and improved through AI agents.

What You’ll Work On

  • Support and improve AI-assisted stakeholder interview experiences, including Scout voice calls, transcript capture, file upload, and real-time guidance.
  • Help develop product features in a modern Next.js App Router codebase using React, TypeScript, Tailwind, Prisma, and PostgreSQL.
  • Work on frontend UI, API routes, data flows, tests, bug fixes, and small end-to-end product improvements.
  • Assist with realtime systems using WebSockets, Server-Sent Events, and voice/audio integrations.
  • Help improve multi-agent workflows across Scout, Lens, Arc, and Pulse, including prompts, context construction, tool access, and reliability.
  • Strengthen the discovery data model across blueprints, phases, swimlanes, goals, findings, opportunities, evidence, and semantic memory.
  • Use AI coding agents, structured plans, automated reviews, and iterative testing as part of normal delivery.

Our Stack

  • Frontend: Next.js App Router, React, TypeScript, Tailwind
  • Backend: Next.js App Router APIs, custom Node server, WebSockets, SSE
  • Database: PostgreSQL, Prisma, pgvector
  • AI/Agents: Claude Agent SDK, Gemini Live, Vertex AI, MCP tools
  • Infra: GCP, Cloud Run, GitHub Actions, Terraform
  • Tooling: pnpm, Vitest, Biome, Docker

What We’re Looking For

  • Strong TypeScript and full-stack engineering fundamentals.
  • Comfort working in a fast-moving startup environment.
  • Good judgment around UX, reliability, data modeling, and production risk.
  • Curiosity about LLMs, AI agents, prompt engineering, and AI product development.
  • Ability to debug messy real-world behaviour, not just build greenfield features.
  • Familiarity with PostgreSQL, Prisma, realtime systems, or cloud deployment, or a willingness to learn quickly.
  • A collaborative mindset and willingness to use AI tools deeply rather than treating them as autocomplete.

Nice To Have

  • Experience with Next.js, React, TypeScript, PostgreSQL, or Prisma.
  • Exposure to voice AI, WebSockets, audio streaming, or realtime transcription.
  • Familiarity with MCP, vector search, RAG, evals, or multi-agent systems.
  • Experience with GCP, Terraform, Cloud Run, or CI/CD pipelines.
  • Interest in enterprise SaaS, service design, consulting workflows, or knowledge management products.

How We Work

We are AI-forward by default. Engineers are expected to use AI coding agents, structured planning, automated code review, and iterative evaluation as part of the development process.

This role is designed for a junior engineer who wants meaningful product exposure in a fast-moving startup environment. You’ll be working on a real AI platform already in active enterprise use, helping transform how traditional business workflows are understood, mapped, and improved through AI agents.

For the right person, the initial contract has a clear path to becoming a permanent role.
