Job title: Security Design Manager (SDM)

Reports to: Regional Security Manager (RSM), ANZ

Location: Sydney, Australia - (Remote)

About our team

We are a dynamic, dedicated team that provides management and support for a global guarding services account that spans across 30+ countries. Our client is an industry-leading datacenter organization, and we pride ourselves on delivering best-in-class solutions through our teams made up of Security Operations, Shared Services, Threat and Incident Management, Environmental Health and Safety, and Human Resources. As part of this team, you’ll work alongside a group of professionals that are committed to excellence and innovation.

About the role

The Security Design Manager leads physical security system design initiatives and provides technical oversight for projects supporting Microsoft's global infrastructure portfolio across the APAC region. This role is responsible for the design, specification, implementation, and continuous improvement of security technologies, including access control, intrusion detection, video surveillance, alarm systems, and other physical security solutions.

Working across multiple concurrent projects, the Security Design Manager partners with architects, engineers, construction managers, security vendors, and client stakeholders to ensure security systems are delivered in accordance with established standards, timelines, and budgets. The role requires strong technical expertise, project management capability, and the ability to translate complex security and business requirements into practical, scalable solutions. The position supports Microsoft's datacenters, leased colocation facilities, and other critical infrastructure environments.

What you’ll do

In this role, you will lead the design, specification, and implementation of physical security systems, including access control, video surveillance, alarm systems, intrusion detection, and radio communication technologies supporting datacenter and critical infrastructure environments. You will review and enhance security designs developed by external vendors and ensure solutions align with program standards, business requirements, and operational objectives.

You will oversee the successful delivery of security projects across the APAC region, supporting project planning, budgeting, scheduling, and quality outcomes while collaborating closely with architects, engineers, construction teams, vendors, and client stakeholders. You will drive continuous improvement initiatives through process optimization, automation, reporting, and data-driven decision-making to enhance the effectiveness and scalability of the physical security program.

You will act as a trusted advisor to internal and external stakeholders, supporting incident response activities, representing the client's physical security program, and translating complex technical concepts into practical business solutions. You will also ensure stakeholder requirements are effectively managed, maintain high standards of confidentiality and professionalism, and support additional projects and reporting requirements as needed.

What you need to apply

To be successful in this role, you should possess a bachelor's degree in engineering, or a related field, along with at least 5 years of experience in physical security system design, security engineering, or a similar discipline. Equivalent combinations of education and experience will also be considered.

You should have strong knowledge of physical security technologies, including access control, intrusion detection, alarm monitoring, and video surveillance systems, as well as experience supporting security solutions throughout project and construction lifecycles. Experience within datacenter or critical infrastructure environments is highly desirable.

Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office applications is required, and professional certifications such as PSP, CPP, PMP, or CSPM are preferred. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong project management, analytical, problem-solving, communication, and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities, work effectively in a fast-paced environment, and present confidently to customers, senior leaders, and executive audiences.

What you’ll get

We offer more than just a job; we offer the opportunity to contribute to one of the world's most advanced and innovative physical security programs supporting critical infrastructure on a global scale.

You will work alongside experienced security professionals, engineers, and operational leaders while gaining exposure to large-scale security initiatives across multiple countries and business functions. This role provides opportunities for professional growth, cross-functional collaboration, and involvement in strategic projects that directly influence the future of physical security operations within a global technology environment.

The extra stuff

Candidates must be at least 18 years of age and possess the legal right to work in Australia.

A valid passport, or the ability to obtain one, is required. Travel may be required domestically and internationally for approximately 25% of the time, occasionally with limited notice. Evening or weekend work may also be required during emergencies, critical incidents, or high-priority events.

Candidates must be willing to participate in the company's pre-employment screening process, including background investigations and drug screening where applicable.

The role requires the ability to manage multiple priorities, handle sensitive and confidential information, and work effectively in a fast-paced, 24/7 security environment. Regular computer use, data analysis, and report preparation are expected. Occasional lifting of up to 25 pounds and travel between project locations may be required.
