Who we are

Payroll Experts Australia is growing to support our expanding Customer base. We are a specialist payroll and workforce management consultancy.

We partner with organisations when payroll is complex, high risk or business critical. Our work spans payroll operations, system implementations, stabilisation and advisory engagements. Customers trust us because we bring deep payroll expertise, practical thinking and a calm, structured approach to solving problems and providing solutions.

We operate fully remotely and value integrity, collaboration, accountability and doing things properly to benefit our Customers.

Who you are

You are an experienced payroll specialist with at least three years of experience in payroll. You have a solid working knowledge of payroll processes, legislation, compliance obligations and payroll systems and you take pride in delivering accurate, timely outcomes for clients.

Your experience may come from in-house payroll or outsourced environments. What matters most is solid payroll capability, sound professional judgement and a genuine focus on Customer outcomes.

You are organised, detail-oriented and able to manage competing priorities without losing focus. You work well both independently and as part of a team, and you bring a positive, can-do attitude to everything you do.

What you will do

  • Execute end-to-end payroll for clients across weekly, fortnightly and monthly cycles, including data collection, calculation, distribution and reporting
  • Ensure timely compliance with payroll-related tax filings and regulations, and manage deductions, benefits and garnishments
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of payroll legislation and best practice to ensure legal compliance and operational efficiency
  • Interpret and apply awards, EBAs and legislative requirements with accuracy and confidence
  • Perform detailed reconciliations, compliance reviews and exception analysis to protect payroll integrity
  • Manage and update payroll records across various payroll systems
  • Produce clear documentation, reporting and control frameworks aligned to best practice
  • Advise stakeholders on payroll risk, compliance and process improvements
  • Contribute to continuous improvement across payroll operations and system capability
  • Travel to client sites or the company office as required

What you will needNon-negotiable

  • Minimum 3 years of payroll operations
  • Solid understanding of payroll processes, compliance obligations and best practice
  • Experience managing and updating payroll records in payroll systems
  • Experience with Payroll, Time and Attendance, WFM, HCM or HRIS platforms
  • Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Office skills, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to prioritise and manage workload effectively
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills, including confidence engaging with clients and stakeholders
  • Positive, collaborative and resilient approach to work
  • Ability to work independently and show initiative
  • Full working rights in Australia

Highly regarded

  • Payroll certification or formal payroll qualification
  • Familiarity with Agile tools such as Jira or Confluence
  • Experience contributing to process improvement or continuous improvement initiatives

What success looks like

You will be successful in this role if you consistently:

  • Deliver accurate and compliant payroll outcomes in complex environments
  • Build strong, trusted relationships with clients and stakeholders
  • Proactively identify risks and implement practical solutions
  • Contribute positively to team capability and continuous improvement
  • Demonstrate accountability, sound judgement and ownership of outcomes
