Job Description
Posted on: June 6, 2026
Energy Networks Australia (ENA) is the national industry body representing Australia's electricity transmission and distribution and gas distribution networks. Our members provide more than 16 million electricity and gas connections to almost every home and business across Australia. We work with networks, regulators, and industry partners to develop research and advice on national and state policy, regulation, and key issues affecting energy networks, including safety and security of supply, reliability, peak demand management, energy efficiency, and sustainable energy.
The Role
We're looking for an experienced communications and media relations professional to drive ENA's day-to-day communications, media engagement, and content delivery. Reporting to the Director of Communications, this role is central to shaping how ENA communicates with members, media, stakeholders, and the broader public.
This is a hands-on role in a small team where flexibility and initiative are highly valued. You'll lead proactive and reactive media activities, develop high-quality communication materials, manage digital and social channels, and support senior leaders with messaging and stakeholder engagement.
Working closely with the Director of Communications, CEA and CEO, and broader ENA team, you will help ensure ENA's voice is clear, credible, influential, and aligned with its strategic priorities.
Key Responsibilities:
- ENA's proactive and reactive media engagement, including drafting media releases, opinion pieces, statements, talking points, and briefing materials, and managing media enquiries across the organisation.
- Media monitoring and emerging issues tracking relevant to ENA and the energy sector.
- Media preparation for the CEO, executive team, and spokespeople, including messaging and briefing notes.
- Journalist, editor, and industry media relationships.
- High-quality written content across newsletters, reports, speeches, presentations, website, and member communications, translating complex energy and policy issues into clear, engaging, and accessible language.
- ENA's digital communications channels, including website, social media, and EDMs, with responsibility for content planning, performance tracking, and growing engagement.
- Communications support for campaigns, advocacy initiatives, thought leadership, member engagement, major events, and strategic partnerships.
- Management of external suppliers, consultants, and creative agencies as required.
To be successful, we expect you will need:
This is an ideal role for an experienced communications and media professional who thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative environment and is equally comfortable writing a media release, advising on messaging, developing a communications plan, or responding to breaking issues.
- 5+ years' experience in communications, media relations, corporate affairs, or public relations.
- Strong media relations experience, including managing reactive issues and securing proactive coverage.
- Exceptional writing and editing skills across a range of formats and audiences.
- Experience developing communications materials for senior executives and stakeholders.
- Strong understanding of digital communications, social media, and content strategy.
- Ability to simplify complex policy, regulatory, or technical issues into clear messaging.
- Excellent organisational and project management skills with the ability to work autonomously and manage competing priorities.
- Experience working with agencies, consultants, or external suppliers.
- A collaborative, solutions-focused approach and willingness to roll up your sleeves and contribute across a small team.
Experience in energy, infrastructure, government, advocacy, or membership organisations will be highly regarded.
Why Join Us?
- An opportunity to contribute to nationally significant conversations about Australia's energy future.
- A role with variety, visibility, and impact across media, communications, and stakeholder engagement.
- The chance to work closely with senior leaders across Australia's energy sector.
- A collaborative and high-performing team environment where ideas and initiative are valued.
- Flexible working arrangements (this is a fully remote role) with shared office spaces in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane and domestic travel opportunities.
- Professional development opportunities in a dynamic and evolving sector.
