About Lumera Institute

Lumera Institute is a new, independent higher education institute in formation, established to meet the demands of Australia’s social services sector. Our goal is clear and time-bound: to achieve TEQSA registration and course accreditation by December 2027, positioning Lumera to commence course delivery with confidence, credibility, and purpose in 2028. We are now entering a critical build phase and are seeking experienced Curriculum writers / Academic content developers to help design and develop original, high-quality curriculum for the Bachelor of Community Services, the Master of Social work, and the MBA (Social Services specialisation).

The Opportunity

This is a rare opportunity to contribute to the creation of a new higher education institute from the ground up. You will play a key role in shaping innovative, applied, and industry-connected curriculum aligned to Lumera’s vision of producing work-ready graduates who meet critical community needs.

For the Bachelor of Community Services, we seek curriculum developing expertise in:

  • Foundations of Community Services Practice
  • Social Policy, Welfare Systems & Advocacy
  • Human Development & Behaviour
  • Case Management & Communication Skills
  • Ethics, Legal Frameworks & Professional Practice

For the Master of Social Work, we seek curriculum developing expertise in:

  • Advanced Social Work Practice & Interventions
  • Human Behaviour, Trauma & Mental Health
  • Social Policy, Justice & Structural Inequality
  • Research Methods & Evidence-Based Practice
  • Ethics, Law & Professional Identity

For the MBA (Social Services specialisation), we seek curriculum developing expertise in:

  • Strategy, Governance & Ethical Leadership
  • Finance, Accounting & Sustainable Funding
  • Marketing, Stakeholder Engagement & Growth
  • Data, Artificial Intelligence & Decision Analytics
  • Innovation, Entrepreneurship & Social Enterprise

Your Education, Experience and Skills

  • A doctoral qualification (AQF Level 10) in a relevant discipline or a Master’s degree (AQF Level 9) with substantial evidence of scholarly activity and experience in postgraduate teaching and/or curriculum design.
  • Demonstrated ability to design curriculum aligned to AQF Level 9 descriptors, including advanced knowledge, critical thinking, and research-informed practice
  • Experience in course and unit development, including learning outcomes, assessment design, and constructive alignment.
  • Strong understanding of academic governance, quality assurance, and TEQSA regulatory expectations.
  • Understanding of student-centred, inclusive, and culturally responsive pedagogy.
  • Ability to design industry-relevant, work-integrated learning experiences.
  • Familiarity with quality assurance processes, including moderation and continuous improvement.
  • Excellent written communication and ability to work collaboratively with academic and industry stakeholders.

Why Lumera?

Opportunities to help build a higher education institute from first principles are rare. Lumera offers a finite window to shape something enduring — contributing to an institute defined by integrity, courage, empathy, and discovery.

Engagement

We offer flexible remote work arrangements to suit your individual situation.

Apply

Please submit an EOI and your CV.

Other Leadership Opportunities

In parallel with curriculum development roles, Lumera is also seeking expressions of interest from senior academic leaders who wish to play a foundational role in shaping the institute. This includes opportunities such as a Chief Academic Officer (CAO) and a Director of Learning and Teaching (DLT) to lead and oversee curriculum design, academic quality, and pedagogical innovation across programs.
