Role (overview of this position): 

We are looking for a responsible and highly motivated AI Engineer who is ready to take ownership of the design, development, and implementation of AI-driven solutions. You’ll work closely with our advisory and technology teams, turning ideas into intelligent systems that create real value for our clients in the legal, risk, and compliance sectors. The ideal candidate will bring innovation, curiosity, and the technical skill set to help reshape how businesses operate using AI. 

Responsibilities (Critical behaviours associated with this role): 

- Design and build scalable, performant AI and machine learning solutions to solve real business problems 

- Collaborate across teams to develop intelligent automation tools and APIs that improve legal and compliance processes 

- Apply Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) and Generative AI methods to deliver best-in-class capabilities 

- Evaluate, fine-tune, and improve models using large-scale datasets and modern ML techniques 

- Ensure all AI initiatives meet legal, ethical, and security standards 

- Write clean, maintainable code and document your work for ongoing support 

- Stay on top of AI trends and integrate new tools that can elevate our product offerings 

- Participate in peer reviews, sprint planning, and help foster a continuous improvement mindset 

Key Results (target outcomes): 

- Delivery of scalable AI services and client technology that support Ethika’s strategic roadmap 

- Improvement in automation and performance across AI features 

- Internal and client satisfaction with AI-driven functionality 

- Measurable innovation initiatives implemented quarterly 

Requirements (expected proficiencies): 

- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Law or related field 

- 3+ years of AI/ML engineering experience, preferably in legal, regulatory, or compliance domains 

- Proficiency in Python, with exposure to Java or .NET being a plus 

- Experience building and integrating scalable APIs 

- Knowledge of RAG pipelines, Generative AI, NLP, and Machine Learning 

- Familiarity with AWS (or equivalent cloud platforms) 

- Experience in requirements analysis (preferred) 

- Experience in background research including critically evaluating existing technologies (preferred) 

- Experience in trailing prototypes with pilot users (preferred) 

- Experience in a global, client-facing environment is desirable 

- Passion for building usable, ethical, and powerful AI products 

- Able to thrive in a fast-paced, remote-first and entrepreneurial culture
