Bench Media is looking for a mid-level Full-Stack Developer to join our small development team and help build and maintain the technology behind Bench Connect, our proprietary media technology platform.
This is a hands-on role for a developer who wants to learn quickly, take greater ownership and contribute across different parts of a growing platform. You’ll work closely with an experienced development team, with the opportunity to influence technical decisions and see the direct impact of your work.
The role
Bench Connect brings together media campaign data from a wide range of platforms and technology partners. You’ll work with APIs and data from companies such as Google, Meta and The Trade Desk, helping us integrate, process and manage information used by our teams and clients.
The role has a strong backend, data and infrastructure focus. Your work will span API integrations, microservices, databases, cloud infrastructure and deployment, with opportunities to contribute to the broader architecture and development of the platform.
What you’ll be doing
- Building, maintaining and improving integrations with external APIs
- Working with APIs from major advertising and technology platforms
- Developing and supporting microservices and the ways they communicate
- Working extensively with databases, including schema design and modification
- Helping maintain the reliability and performance of our platform
- Maintaining and improving cloud infrastructure and deployment processes
- Contributing to software architecture and technical design decisions
- Supporting existing data pipelines and ETL or ELT processes
- Troubleshooting issues across applications, integrations, data and infrastructure
- Working collaboratively within a small team to deliver practical solutions
What we’re looking for
- Ideally mid level 3 to 8 years’ experience in software development
- Experience building or integrating APIs using technologies such as REST, JSON-RPC and OAuth 2.0
- A sound understanding of microservices, including how they operate and communicate
- Experience contributing to software architecture and system design
- Strong SQL skills and practical experience with a relational database such as PostgreSQL, MySQL or Oracle
- Experience working with cloud infrastructure and application deployments
- Familiarity with CI/CD practices, containers and infrastructure as code
- The ability to investigate problems, work independently and communicate clearly
- A curious and practical mindset, with a willingness to learn and contribute beyond a narrowly defined area
Our technology
Our primary development language is Go, so commercial Go experience would be highly regarded. However, we’re also open to developers with strong experience in Java, Python who are learning Go or keen to develop their skills.
Our broader technology environment includes:
- Go
- PostgreSQL and Snowflake
- AWS, including S3, Lambda, EC2 and SNS/SQS
- Docker
- GitLab CI/CD
- CloudFormation and Terraform
- Python, Panda
Experience with MongoDB, Scala, Spark, Airflow or data pipelines would be valuable, but you don’t need to know every part of the technology stack on day one.
Why join Bench?
At Bench, our ambition is to turn possibility into breakthrough. For our development team, that means using technology, data and new ideas to solve real problems and continually improve the way media is planned, managed and measured.
You’ll be joining a small team where your work will be visible and your ideas will be heard. Rather than being confined to one narrow part of a large system, you’ll gain exposure across the platform and have opportunities to contribute to architecture, integrations, data, infrastructure and product development.
At Bench, you’ll have the opportunity to:
- Work with data and technology from leading platforms including Google, Meta and The Trade Desk
- Learn from experienced developers while taking ownership of meaningful work
- Contribute to technical decisions and help shape how our platform evolves
- Work on products used by our teams and clients, so you can see the practical impact of what you build
- Gain broad experience across backend development, data and cloud infrastructure
- Follow a clear development pathway supported by regular career conversations
- Join a collaborative business that values curiosity, initiative and continuous improvement
We offer a hybrid workplace, with at least two days working from home each week. When you’re in the office, you’ll be based in a convenient location with harbour views and Metro, train and bus services within a two-minute walk. Please note we will consider fully remote for the right candidate located outside of Sydney.
Our benefits also include paid birthday leave and two paid volunteering days each year, giving you time to support causes that matter to you.
We have regular team-building and social events and a strong, supportive culture built around working together, sharing ideas and making things better.
If you’re a mid-level developer looking for broader exposure and the opportunity to grow quickly, we’d like to receive your application.
