Job Description

Posted on: September 20, 2026

This is a rare opportunity to work at the centre of Australia’s festival industry, connecting with the people and organisations delivering festivals and major events across the country.

As Membership & Programs Officer at the Australian Festival Association (AFA), you’ll be a key member of a small, fast-moving team, working closely with the CEO across membership, industry engagement, programs, events and communications.

What you'll do

Membership

You’ll help make the AFA a valuable and representative organisation for its members.

  • Manage new member onboarding and membership administration.
  • Triage incoming member inquiries and ensure timely, helpful engagement.
  • Build and maintain relationships with members across the sector.
  • Support member retention and satisfaction.

Programs and events

You’ll play an active role in delivering programs and creating opportunities for the sector to connect.

  • Support the planning, delivery, promotion and evaluation of the organisation's programs and events.
  • Deliver key sector engagement opportunities, including member forums, industry roundtables, partner events and major industry conferences.
  • Coordinate event logistics, communications, registrations, speakers, materials and follow-up.
  • Help ensure programs are well organised, professionally delivered and valuable to participants.
  • Gather feedback and insights to help continuously improve AFA programs and member engagement.

Communications and digital

You’ll help bring the AFA’s work and opportunities to life across its digital channels.

  • Support communications across email, website, social media and other digital channels.
  • Help maintain a consistent, engaging online presence for the AFA and its programs.

Other duties and responsibilities as reasonably required to support the work of the AFA.

About you

You are someone who enjoys building relationships, making things happen and keeping the details under control. This role would suit someone who is highly organised, proactive and curious about the festival sector, and who wants a genuine opportunity to build their industry knowledge and network.

Essential

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organisational and administrative abilities, with attention to detail.
  • Experience in membership, stakeholder engagement or customer service roles.
  • Ability to synthesise policy issues and communicate them clearly to different audiences.
  • Proficiency in digital tools including email platforms, spreadsheets, and CRM systems.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a small remote team, with initiative and reliability.
  • Comfortable holding a varied workload and moving between tasks as priorities shift.
  • Live in New South Wales, Australia.

Desirable:

  • Experience in a membership-based organisation, advocacy body, or not-for-profit.
  • Familiarity with public policy processes or advocacy in the arts, events, or entertainment sectors.
  • Understanding of the Australian music and festival industry.
  • Tertiary qualifications in communications, public policy, arts, business, or a related field.
