Company: Asset Rental Group (ARG)
Location: Remote (Sydney-based for occasional in-person meetings)
Employment Type: Full-Time, Part-Time 3-4 days per week considered for the right candidate
Direct Reports: External Bookkeeping Team (4 FTE)
About Us
Asset Rental Group (ARG) is a national leader in commercial Rent To Buy solutions, helping sole traders and small businesses secure the vehicles they need to work and grow their income. We support clients who are often overlooked by traditional finance models — new ABNs, limited credit history, or past credit challenges — and give them a practical pathway to ownership. We’re growing fast and expanding our presence across Australia.
Position Overview
We are seeking a rigorous, detail-oriented Commercial Finance Manager to own the integrity of our financial function and support our commercial growth. This role is ideal for a compliance-focused professional who wants to expand their remit into commercial operations and financial strategy. You will ensure our reporting is bulletproof while proactively identifying ways to modernise our workflows and improve our business.
Key Responsibilities
Compliance & Financial Control
- Audit & Integrity: Lead the preparation for and management of the annual audit. Ensure all financial records meet regulatory standards and internal controls are robust.
- Reporting & Close: Own the month-end close process and deliver accurate monthly Board reports and lender reporting packages.
- Policy Oversight: Develop and enforce company-wide policies, including staff expense programs and internal financial governance.
- Team Oversight: Manage an external bookkeeping team (~4 FTE), ensuring they adhere to our standards of accuracy and timeliness.
Commercial & Operational Exposure
- Financial Planning: Own the monthly forecasting process, bridging the gap between historical data and future commercial performance.
- Strategic Projects: Lead strategic projects such as evaluating vendors, insourcing areas of our business and new product design.
- Optimising ROI: Work with the team to identify risks and opportunities in our current new and end contract policies in order to maximise ROI.
- Process Improvement: Evaluate current systems and utilise technology where appropriate to improve the speed and reliability of our financial data.
Ideal Skills & Experience
- Technical Rigor: Strong background in financial control, statutory reporting, and audit management. Ideally with a CA or equivalent qualification.
- Commercial Ambition: A desire to move beyond the ledger and understand the operational drivers of the business.
- Governance Mindset: A disciplined approach to policy, documentation, and risk management.
- Leadership: Ability to hold external partners (outsourced teams) accountable to high standards.
- Small Business Background: You have a proven track record in a growing, small-to-medium organisation. You understand the need to be hands-on to build scalable processes.
Career Growth: From Compliance to Commercial
This role offers a unique "bridge" for a candidate coming from a technical or audit background. You will be given the autonomy to:
- Manage Commercial Operations: Transition from reporting on the business to influencing how it runs.
- Influence: Move from data entry to data storytelling for senior stakeholders.
- Drive Efficiency: Use technology as a tool for better compliance, rather than just for innovation's sake.
No overseas candidates or recruiters please.
