Job Description

Posted on: April 13, 2026

Climate Data Specialist (AI Training)About The Role What if your expertise in climate science could directly shape how AI understands one of the most critical challenges facing our planet? We're looking for environmental science experts to develop advanced, real-world problems in climate modeling, ecology, and sustainability — problems that will be used to train and sharpen the next generation of AI models. This is a fully remote, flexible contract role designed for Masters and PhD-level scientists who want to put their deep domain knowledge to work in a meaningful, forward-looking way. No prior AI experience needed — just rigorous scientific thinking and a passion for your field.

  • Organization: Alignerr
  • Type: Hourly Contract
  • Location: Remote
  • Commitment: 10–40 hours/week

What You'll Do

  • Design, solve, and review advanced environmental science problems with real-world scientific relevance
  • Apply your expertise in climate modeling, ecology, sustainability, or related disciplines to develop complex, rigorous problem statements
  • Evaluate the scientific accuracy, depth, and clarity of AI-generated responses in your domain
  • Collaborate asynchronously with AI researchers and fellow domain experts to improve AI model reasoning
  • Ensure scientific rigor and precision across all deliverables — from problem design to written feedback

Who You Are

  • Holds a Master's or PhD in Environmental Science, Climate Science, Ecology, or a closely related field
  • Experienced with Python or R for research, data analysis, or modeling
  • Deep expertise in at least one of: climate modeling, ecology, sustainability science, or environmental data analysis
  • Exceptionally clear written communicator — you can explain complex ideas with precision and depth
  • Detail-oriented, self-motivated, and comfortable working independently on an asynchronous basis
  • Fluent in English and based in the U.S., Canada, U.K., Australia, or New Zealand

Nice to Have

  • Prior experience with data annotation, data quality review, or AI evaluation workflows
  • Background in environmental policy, remote sensing, or earth system science
  • Experience communicating scientific findings to non-specialist audiences
  • Familiarity with AI tools or large language model outputs as an end user

Why Join Us

  • Work on cutting-edge AI projects alongside leading research labs and AI teams
  • Fully remote and flexible — work when and where it suits your schedule
  • Freelance autonomy with the structure of meaningful, task-based scientific work
  • Apply your graduate-level expertise to problems that matter — shaping how AI reasons about climate and the environment
  • Potential for ongoing work and contract extension as new projects launch
