A South Australian man is believed to have murdered his wife before taking his own life, just weeks after facing domestic violence charges. To the Bordertown community, Shafeeqa Shah and Mirza Husseini were the perfect couple, raising six children in the small town. However, police reveal a tragic history of abuse behind closed doors.

The bodies of 47-year-old Husseini and 41-year-old Shah were found on Sunday night after relatives, unable to contact the couple, alerted the police. Officers discovered the two bodies at their home at 11pm, with investigations indicating the pair had died that day.

"Police believe the man took his own life after murdering the woman," said South Australia Police Acting Assistant Commissioner Cath Hilliard. Hilliard also mentioned that the man was known to police from a previous domestic violence incident earlier this year, but there were no current court-imposed restrictions preventing contact between them.

Detectives continue to investigate the deaths but are not looking for anyone else involved. "It's tragic," Hilliard stated, emphasizing the impact on the family, community, and emergency responders.

Support is available from the National Sexual Assault, Domestic and Family Violence Counselling Service at 1800RESPECT (1800 737 732).
