Job Description

Posted on: April 29, 2026

Material Science Specialist (AI Training)About The Role What if your expertise in semiconductor materials or molecular modeling could directly shape how AI reasons through the most complex problems in modern science? We're looking for Material Science specialists — Masters and PhD level — to work alongside leading AI research teams and help build the next generation of scientifically rigorous AI models. This is a fully remote, flexible contract role designed around your schedule. You bring the deep domain expertise; we'll handle the onboarding and training support.

  • Organization: Alignerr
  • Type: Hourly Contract
  • Location: Remote
  • Commitment: 10–40 hours/week

What You'll Do

  • Develop, solve, and critically review advanced material science problems with real-world relevance
  • Apply your expertise in semiconductor materials, molecular modeling, or related specializations to design complex, challenging problem statements
  • Collaborate asynchronously with AI researchers and fellow domain experts to sharpen AI model reasoning and output quality
  • Evaluate AI-generated scientific content for rigor, accuracy, and conceptual depth
  • Ensure clarity and precision across all deliverables — your standards set the bar

Who You Are

  • Hold a Master's or PhD in Material Science or a closely related field
  • Deep expertise in semiconductor materials, molecular modeling, or an adjacent discipline
  • Comfortable coding in Python or MATLAB for research applications or technical problem-solving
  • Exceptionally clear communicator — both in writing and verbally — with strong attention to detail
  • Self-directed and reliable when working independently in an asynchronous environment
  • Currently based in the U.S., Canada, U.K., Australia, or New Zealand

Nice to Have

  • Prior experience with data annotation, data quality evaluation, or AI training workflows
  • Background in research publishing, peer review, or technical curriculum design
  • Familiarity with AI tools or scientific evaluation platforms

Why Join Us

  • Work on cutting-edge AI projects alongside the world's leading AI research labs
  • Fully remote and asynchronous — work when and where it suits you
  • Freelance autonomy with the structure of meaningful, intellectually stimulating work
  • Directly influence how AI understands and reasons through advanced scientific concepts
  • Potential for ongoing work and contract extension as new projects launch
