CAD & 3D Modeling Specialist
Job Description
Posted on: March 10, 2025
Project Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled industrial designer to develop CAD models, 3D renders, and manufacturing files for a unique, patentable tile tessellation system. This project aims to create innovative tile designs for entry into design competitions within the next 12 months.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will have expertise in CAD modeling, 3D rendering, and an understanding of manufacturing processes such as CNC machining and mold-making. Collaboration will be key to ensuring that designs are both visually compelling and feasible for production.
Key Responsibilities
The designer will be responsible for converting hand-drawn concept sketches into CAD files using Fusion 360 or similar software. They will develop 3D models to visualize tile tessellations and multi-tile patterns. High-quality renders showcasing tiles in specific materials and color palettes will be created, and CNC files (STEP, DXF) and 3D printing files (OBJ, STL) for prototype development will be generated. Designs must align with both aesthetic vision and manufacturing feasibility, and all work must be completed within a 30-day turnaround.
Required Qualifications
A strong background in industrial design, specifically within the architectural space, is required. Proficiency in Fusion 360, Rhino, SolidWorks, or similar CAD software is essential. The candidate should have experience in tile, surface, or modular pattern design, and be knowledgeable in CNC machining, 3D surfacing, and mold-making for casting. The ability to translate 2D concept drawings into accurate 3D models and a deadline-driven work ethic with a focus on high-quality results are crucial.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with tiling, ceramics, or modular architectural elements is preferred. Familiarity with manufacturing processes for ceramics and composite materials is a plus. Previous experience in design competitions or innovation-driven projects will be advantageous. The ideal candidate should also have strong collaboration skills and a desire for ongoing partnership in future design work.
Project Scope & Budget
The estimated work for this project is 20-30 hours (up to 40 hours if needed). The budget for the project is $1,000 - $1,500 (fixed-price preferred), and deliverables are to be completed within 30 days.
Contract & NDA
The client will retain full ownership of intellectual property (IP) and design rights. Confidentiality is essential—no sharing of project details without express permission.
